Juried by Rodney Veal, MFA, Host of the Emmy Award-winning PBS production, The Art Show, ThinkTV, Dayton, Ohio.
SMoA is thrilled to celebrate the 79th anniversary of the Annual Juried Members’ Exhibition! Since 1946, this exhibition has highlighted the talents of member artists, both professional and emerging alike, providing an outlet for all skillsets. All members are encouraged to apply for this wonderful opportunity.
Artists are welcome to submit up to two pieces as part of their entry into the 79th Juried Members’ Exhibition. Applicants must be members of the Springfield Museum of Art in Springfield, OH. Artists submitting one piece will automatically be juried into the exhibition. For artists submitting two pieces, the juror will select one piece for acceptance, second pieces will be accepted based on quality of the work and gallery space. The juror will select first, second, and third places, as well as three honorable mentions.

General Guidelines and Requirements
• Artists must be current members of the Springfield Museum of Art.
• Must be a named adult member (with own card); 18 years of age or older.
• 1-2 artworks per member may be entered using the guidelines below. For each entrant, in the first round, the juror will select one artwork. Once all first-round jurying is complete, where space permits, the juror may select a very limited number of additional artworks for inclusion. In these cases, a few members may have two works selected for inclusion. If only one piece is entered, that work will be guaranteed acceptance.
• Works should have been created in the last three years and not previously exhibited at the Museum.
• All works must be display-ready.
• 2-D artworks and wall pieces should not exceed 4 ft in width, 5 ft in height, or 50 pounds in weight. Wall pieces must be framed and have a HANGING WIRE or other secure/appropriate hanging system securely installed. Include hanging instructions where necessary. Rubber bumpers on the back of framed pieces preferred.
• NO SAWTOOTH HANGERS.
• 3-D artworks must not exceed 100 pounds and must fit on a pedestal with a footprint of 24 x 24” or less.
• Artist’s name, contact phone/email address, and the title of the artwork should be on a label attached to the back/bottom of work.
• All works must be delivered (and picked up) in person during one of the specified accepted artwork drop-off times. Artists may name an alternate to deliver or pick-up artwork if unable to do so themselves. Works not picked up following the final pick-up day will be considered abandoned. The Museum will not be responsible for abandoned works. SMoA has limited staffing and storage capacity and cannot accept, handle, unpack/store/repack shipped artworks. SMoA is not responsible for shipping or handling costs. Exceptions are rare and if granted, must be preapproved by Museum staff for unusual and unforeseen circumstances.
• Accepted work must remain on display through the end of the exhibition.
• Artwork may be available for sale if desired. Please list the sales price. If sold by/at the Museum, 30% of the sales price will be retained by the Museum. Members intending to sell work will be required to complete/sign an IRS W-9 to be kept on file with the Springfield Museum of Art for the duration of the exhibition. This can be completed during artwork drop-off.
• Artwork which is NOT FOR SALE should be listed as NFS, but members will still need to list an appropriate value for insurance purposes. (For example, NFS-Value $225)
Springfield Museum of Art reserves the right to reject any accepted artwork that does not meet the guidelines for the Juried Members’ Exhibition outlined here and below, is deemed unsafe, differs substantively from the artist’s photo(s) and/or description, or for any other reason.
Size of Artwork and Display
Due to the large number of works submitted to the Members’ Exhibition each year, oversized pieces may not be able to be exhibited. All work must be within the size restrictions outlined above. If you have concerns, please check with our staff prior to submitting your entry. See below for additional display guidelines:
3D pieces deemed by staff as fragile may be covered by a vitrine or otherwise protected. This ensures the safety of both the artwork and Museum visitors.
Pieces requiring innovative display furniture or props may be accepted on the condition that the artist provides an appropriate display mechanism. Please note:
• Heavy, wall-mounted works must include hanging hardware appropriate to the size and weight of the piece.
• Pieces requiring ceiling suspension and/or wall or floor alteration cannot be accepted.
• New media, film, and digital works are encouraged, but the digital device must be provided by the artist.
• Artists may include a brief note with their piece(s) at drop-off requesting nuances for display; however, accommodations cannot be guaranteed, and artists will not be consulted for final display arrangements.
The final decision about acceptance of pieces requiring alternate display options is at the discretion of curatorial staff and the director of the Museum. If artists are concerned about their piece, they should check with staff prior to submitting their entry.
